SWIM WITHOUT BORDERS

Swim Without Borders is a stand alone event featuring a terrific open water swim in the Straight of Georgia from International Peace Arch Park, British Columbia, Canada  to Semiahmoo Spit, Blaine, Washington, USA.  This is a unique opportunity to swim from from country to another. The swim takes place at slack tide. Currents will not be an issue. Water safety will be provided by the Coast Guard Auxiliary, certified Life Guards and volunteer kayakers.

WAIKIKI ROUGHWATER SWIM

Top finishers will qualify for the 2006 Honolulu Rough Water swim -- September 2006.  Details are being refined.  Watch this site for event news.

Location:  Birch Bay, WA and White Rock, BC. 30 miles north of Bellingham, WA and 40 miles south of Vancouver, BC, Canada.

The Event:  A 3030 meter Open Water Swim. Limited to 200 people -- wetsuits encouraged.

Start Time: 8:30AM - Peace Arch Provincial Park

Unique Course:  The Open Water (Ultra) swim starts at Peach Arch Park in Canada, heads due west out and around the international boundary buoy and then ends south at Semiahmoo Spit USA.  It is shown below in Red (the Olympic and Sprint swims are for the triathlons)

Check In/Logistics: Swim Participants must check in at the US side of the border by 8:10AM AND MUST HAVE DRIVEN THROUGH THE US CUSTOMS CROSSING AND SHOWN PASSPORT OR BIRTH CERTIFICATE & PHOTO ID.  Be sure to give yourself time to get through the border and  park your car at the Peace Arch State Park in BLAINE (not the Provincial Park.) To get there from Canada, cross the border at Peach Arch.  Take the first exit and cross under the freeway heading East.  Go north 3 blocks on 2nd Street to parking.

If you are being dropped off ...your friend must get to the spit before 8:30 (a 20 minute drive around Drayton Harbor) as the spit traffic will be very restricted for the triathlon. The spit will make a good viewpoint.  Post race shuttles will be available to transport swimmers back to their cars at the Blaine State Park after 10:30 AM awards.  If you prefer to park at the Spit pre-race... shuttles will be available from 7:00 - 8:00 AM to get to the swim start but may be crowded with Triathletes.
