RACE LOGISTICS - IMPORTANT! (download as a PDF)

Tri Without Borders, while unique, is also a bit complicated.  The Olympic Triathlon and the 'Swim Without Borders" are point to point -- across Boundary Bay.  In order to prepare your transition areas, all athletes need to drive around Drayton Harbor to Semiahmoo Spit.  Athletes in the Olympic Distance Triathlon will be bused to the start or may arrange their own transportation if they are late.  An important timing issue is that the Spit traffic will be reduced to one-lane from 8:40 AM to 10:30 AM to accommodate the bike in and out on the narrow two lane road so you must be parked by 8:00 AM

PASSING THROUGH CANADIAN CUSTOMS TO THE SWIM START

We will be submitting the names and birthdates of all athletes that will be starting in B.C to Canadian Immigration.  They have asked to screen non-Canadian participants.  You will be contacted if any issues arise -- they will be screening for specific indictable crimes (depending on records they will make decisions on a case-by-case basis since athletes are only a half mile into Canada in wetsuits .)  We will be working to determine if athletes will need to bring ID to the swim start check in.  Its quite possible the triathlon check-in procedures at Semiahmoo will suffice.  If you are required to bring ID, we will securely transport your ID for you to the swim finish.

Swim Without Borders participants will check in at the start in the Blaine Parking Lot at Peace Arch Park.  Your post race gear will be brought to the finish line at Semiahmoo Spit. Swimmers will be bused back to the swim start to pick up their cars.  Swimmers may have friends transport them (preferable).  Be sure to have your friends plan on getting to Semiahmoo Spit before traffic closes at 8:00 AM

SATURDAY ATHLETE CHECK IN (TRI - SWIM) DAY BEFORE REGISTRATION : Athletes may register for the event or pick up their race packets the day before the event at a booth at the BLAINE STREET FAIR  H Street and Peace Portal Drive. 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Transition Area:  Bikes must be racked by 8:20 AM.  Only athletes will be allowed in the Transition Area -- NO EXCEPTIONS.  Bikes must have their number on them before they can be allowed in the Transition Area.  Only actual athletes with their number can remove their bikes from the area.

The bike number is secured to your bike frame Road bike numbers must be visible from the sides. Helmet stickers should be placed in front of the helmet, Bib numbers should be worn on the front of the body during the run portion of the event.

SUNDAY CHECK IN - SWIMMERS Peace Arch Park:  Swimmer check-in will be at the Blaine Peach Arch State Parking Lot from 7:15 AM to 8:20 AM (see map in the Swim Without Borders page).  A truck will be available to transport your post race goods to Semiahmoo (make sure your bag is well marked). Sticker will be available for you to label your bags. A bus will return you to the start post race.

BUS TRANSPORTATION: Part of the entrance fee pays for transportation.  The parking lot will be open by 6:30 AM.  Buses Leave Semiahmoo at 7:35 promptly.  A truck will be able to take back a small bag of person belongings to a secured area at the finish area - bags and label stickers will be available .  Athletes returning to Blaine will be bused from 11:15 AM .
